EU expresses its deep concern about the targeting of Palestinian civil institutions by the occupation

Brussels, (ST) – The European Union Commissioner for Foreign Affairs and Security, Josep Borrell, expressed the Union’s deep concern about the Israeli occupation authorities’ closure of Palestinian human rights and civil institutions. He stressed that these measures are “unacceptable.”

Borrell said in a press statement this evening, carried by the Palestinian Wafa News Agency, that the European Union is deeply concerned about the Israeli raids and incursions that targeted Palestinian civil society organizations on August 18, as part of the reduction of the space allocated to civil society in the occupied Palestinian territories.

Borrell stressed the European Union’s support for the call of the United Nations agencies to the Israeli occupation “to refrain from any action that would prevent these organizations from continuing their important work in the field of human rights, humanitarian and development work in the occupied Palestinian territories.”

Nine member states of the European Union expressed two days ago their concern about the closure of the Palestinian civil institutions by the occupation authorities.

On the 18th of this month, the occupation authorities closed the headquarters of 7 Palestinian human rights and civil institutions in the cities of Ramallah and Al-Bireh in the West Bank, which was met with widespread Palestinian, Arab and international condemnation.
