The Union of Journalists in Syria organized a reception on the occasion of the sixteenth Syrian Press Day at the Journalists Club in Damascus.
The ceremony was attended by Minister of Information, Dr. Boutros Al-Hallaq, Deputy Minister Ahmad Dawa, a number of ambassadors, heads and members of diplomatic missions accredited in Damascus and , and a number of media professionals from various media institutions in all governorates.
Dr. Mahdi Dakhlallah, member of the central leadership of the Arab Socialist Baath Party, head of the Central Preparation and Culture and Information Office said that “in the fifties of the last centuries the Syrian media was the best media in the region, and we do not forget today that all the important Arab newspapers were issued from Damascus and they are Syrian newspapers”,
For his part, Musa Abdel Nour, the head of the Union of Journalists, stressed on the role of the Syrian media, especially in light of the stages of the war that was waged against Syria to undermine its unity and sovereignty.
Syrian media martyrs who sacrificed their lives to communicate the truth of what is happening in Syria, and to clarify this to the world public opinion were remembered and saluted .
Abdel Nour goes on to say that “ Syrian media is still in the midst of confrontation on all sides, political, diplomatic, economic and social, in addition to other fronts against social media and malicious pages, which confirms that the war is still going on and the confrontation continues.
Abdel Nour explained that the Union of Journalists will continue its work with the new members in the Executive Office to be representative of Syrian journalists in all forums”.
The Vice President of the Union of Media Journalists, Raida Waqaf, said to Syriatimes “ Our greetings to every Syrian journalist, and congratulations to all Syrian journalists on their 15th birthday, August 15th, with love and appreciation
“The cases of journalists who were martyred, kidnapped and injured must find someone to defend them, not only as a Syrian press, but as a global press, because it violates all international laws and the global conscience” Waqaf added.
Broadcaster Osama Shehadeh said that the media presented a convoy of martyrs who were able to support the army to achieve victory by realizing their dreams”.
Ahmad Dawwa, the deputy information minister , said to Syriatimes that despite all difficulties we should be optimistic and have positive point of view especially after ten years of crisis
“Our country is getting better little by little” Mr. Dawwa added.
