New Delhi (ST): India celebrates today the 75th Independence Day with festivities in most parts of the Indian subcontinent, where the Indian flag is raised in all states.
In the capital, New Delhi, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi raised the flag over the famous Red Fort, in the presence of a large number of senior officials and heads of Arab and foreign diplomatic missions.
In his speech, Modi stressed his government’s keenness to achieve the aspirations of the Indian people and address the difficult challenges facing the country.
Modi urged young people to do their part for their country and said, “India will fulfill its ambitions and become a developed country in the next 25 years.”
India gained independence from British colonialism in 1947 and was declared a republic on January 26, 1950.
