Damascus (ST): Today, the continent of Europe is witnessing the harshest summer it has experienced in 500 years, and it comes with an energy crisis that it is experiencing as a result of the repercussions of the sanctions it imposed on Russia, but the coming winter will be, according to expectations, harsher with its repercussions on the Europeans.
Fears of losing heating in severely cold weather have become a nightmare for European societies and governments alike as a result of the severe shortage of gas, crude oil and Russian refined products, as many European families began collecting firewood in preparation for a winter without gas, while governments hold a meeting after another in search of an alternative Russian energy without access to it yet.
Among the attempts of Western governments to find solutions and alternatives to Russian gas, the European Union approved an emergency plan to reduce gas consumption with energy shortages that will worsen with the advent of winter and lower temperatures, as member states agreed to reduce their demand for gas by 15 percent compared to their average consumption in the past five years.
