Syrian-Iraqi talks to develop cooperation in the field of higher education

On August 14th, the Iraqi Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Nabil Kazem Abdul-Sahib, met with the Syrian ambassador in Baghdad, Sattam Jadaan Al-Dandah

The two sides discussed ways to develop bilateral cooperation between the two countries in the field of higher education, scientific research and cultural and academic exchange. 

According to a statement by the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education, the two sides also discussed prospects for scientific and academic cooperation and framing cultural exchange programs in the context of understanding between Iraqi and Syrian higher education and scientific research institutions. 

The statement indicated that Minister Abdul-Saheb stressed that Iraq and its academic institutions are keen to develop coordination and development paths for cultural exchange and sustainable academic cooperation in accordance with the approved determinants and standards of scientific sobriety, in addition to the willingness of Iraqi universities to receive Syrian students and to provide and exchange scholarships and fellowships. 

For his part, Ambassador Al-Dandah said that the meeting dealt with strengthening cooperation between universities, research centers and educational institutions, exchanging visits and the participation of students in various scientific activities. 

Al-Dandah stated that the meeting resulted in an agreement to sign a memorandum of understanding between the Ministries of Higher Education and Scientific Research in Syria and Iraq regarding the admission of students to universities and the exchange of scholarships for postgraduate studies between the two countries.
