Foreign Ministry: Talk on Political, Constitutional Legitimacy in Syria an Exclusive Right to the Syrians
DAMASCUS, (ST) – The Foreign Ministers of the United States, France and Britain have revealed their involvement in the ongoing crisis in Syria and their sought to impose their will on the Syrian people, a Foreign and Expatriates Ministry source stressed on Tuesday.
In a statement to SANA, the source said the press conference held yesterday by the three ministers in Paris has revealed their true objectives in Syria and affirmed their keenness to preempt the outcomes of dialogue among the Syrians and impose their will on the Syrian people in the service of the tools used by the US and its allies to implement the West’s schemes in the region.
The source added that those tools did not hesitate to incite the U.S. to launch aggression against Syria and its people.
According to the source, the governments of U.S., France and Britain claim their support for political solution while they are blatantly involved in backing the violence of the Jabhet al-Nousra-linked armed terrorist groups which keep committing horrible crimes against the Syrian people in order to prolong the crisis in Syria.
“The talk on the political and constitutional legitimacy in Syria is an exclusive right to the Syrian people. The USA and its allies are not allowed to claim the power to confiscate this right or to impose their will on the Syrians,” the Foreign Ministry’s source stressed.
“President Bashar Al-Assad is the legitimate president who was chosen by the Syrian people and he will continue to be the leader so long as the people want him,” the source affirmed, pointing out that the President is exercising powers in accordance with the Constitution which was approved by the Syrians, and those who do not like this fact don’t have to go to Geneva Conference.
The source asserted that on several occasions, Syria has confirmed its adherence to a political solution based on dialogue among the Syrians under a Syrian leadership in order to help the Syrian people draw up their own future.
“Today, Syria reiterates that any internationally-agreed political solution must respect the Syrian people’s options and avoid any attempt to confiscate their will preemptively,” the source clarified.
Concluding the statement, the source said that according to the UN Charter, these states, as permanent members of the Security Council, shoulder the responsibility of working honestly and seriously to enhance respect of the international law and the rights and principles of the Charter instead of seeking to impose their will on states and destabilize them either through threats of aggression or through supporting their local tools and agents.
