China warns US of consequences for Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan

New York, (ST) – China’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Zhang Jun, has warned of the consequences of US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan. He said that it will undermine relations between China and the United States.

“A visit by Pelosi or any US official to Taiwan would be a dangerous and provocative act and would undermine security and stability as well as US-China relations,” Zhang was quoted by the Russian RIA Novosti news agency as saying at a press conference. He stressed that Washington should understand the consequences of such a move.

Zhang added that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory, we do not allow anyone to cross this red line, and we firmly oppose any Taiwan’s separatist tendencies and interference in the affairs of the People’s Republic of China.

Earlier, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said that there will be resolute countermeasures against the United States if it defies China’s red line.

Zhao Lijian added that, the US side should bear all the dangerous consequences if Pelosi visits Taiwan
