Deputy Commander in Chief of the Army and Armed Forces, Defense Minister, General Ali Abbas, on Monday stressed that since its foundation, the Syrian Arab Army has efficiently confronted colonialist and hegemony schemes that targeted the Arab nation and it has been heroically confronting terrorism and its supporters over the past 11 years and it will continue with this battle until complete victory.
In a telephone interview with the Syrian TV marking the 77th Foundation Anniversary of the Syrian Arab Army, Gen. Abbas congratulated President Bashar Al-Assad, the Commander in Chief of the Army and Armed Forces, as well as the soldiers and officers of the army on this occasion, hailing the army’s sacrifices and commitment to its sacred national and constitutional duty.
“Since its foundation, the Syrian Army has considered itself as the army of the Arab nation. It has confronted all the colonialism and hegemony schemes that targeted this nation and tirelessly defended the Arab causes, foremost of which is the Palestinian cause,” Gen. Abbas said.
“The Syrian Army launched the October War of Liberation and the battles of attrition that followed this war, which resulted in the liberation of the Syrian city of Quneitra. The army also played a major role in ending the civil war in Lebanon, bravely confronted the Israeli invasion of Lebanon in 1982 and supported the Lebanese national resistance which proved its ability to defeat the Israeli enemy and liberate most of the occupied Lebanese lands in the year 2000 and which achieved a strategic victory in the war of July, 2006 against the Israeli occupation,” Abbas clarified.
He went on to say that the Syrian army has been confronting terrorists and their supporters over the past 11 years despite the limitless military support for terrorism by colonialist countries.
He reiterated that the soldiers of the Syrian army will continue, with a high sense of national responsibility and strong determination, to exert relentless efforts in defense of Syria’s unity and independence under the leadership of President Bashar Al-Assad.
