Famous Syrian artist Sarah Shamma participates in Exhibition in London

Upon the invitation of the Royal Academy ( RA) of Arts in London,  the famous Syrian artist Sarah Shamma  participates  in  the Summer Exhibition 2022 of the RA to present a portrait of the famous British actors  Meera Syal and Sanjeev Bhaskar who have won many awards.

Artist Shamma told the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), that her painting is part of her new project entitled “Strong Husbands”, indicating that she seeks  through this project  to portray highly productive couples who are celebrated in their different fields.

During this year,  the Syrian artist participated in many international events, including an exhibition in Singapore  for the benefit of the World Wide Fund ( WWF) for Nature.

The exhibition came as part of a campaign undertaken by the World Wide Fund for Nature to stimulate discussion and action to save tigers killed by poaching, climate change and deforestation.

Shamma  pointed out that the exhibition, which was launched at the National Gallery in Singapore , displayed 33 life-size tiger sculptures designed by a group of famous artists.

Shamma also drew this year a group of paintings depicting St. Wilfried, founder of Ripon Cathedral, which was founded in 672 as her paintings were placed in the nave, which is the oldest surviving building in an English cathedral.

Artist Shamma indicated that the display of her paintings in the cathedral came within the project “From Rome to Ripon”, which is a partnership between Ripon Cathedral and the Church Art Foundation, which is  a charitable foundation that won many awards and aims to introduce famous contemporary art to British churches to reactivate them as the beating heart of societies.

Regarding her projects for the next year 2023, Shamma said that she is currently preparing to hold an exhibition at the Dalych Picture Gallery in London.

With her contemporary paintings, she will address the historical paintings of the great  artists  through a dynamic artistic language that connects the present with the past and adds a new dimension to international plastic art.

Concerning the importance of this exhibition, Shamma said: “The Dalych Picture Gallery is the oldest art gallery in London and the first purpose-built hall in England. It opened in 1817 and soon hosted  some of the world’s finest collections of Old Masters.”

She concluded by saying that her exhibition in this gallery  will be held at the same time of holding an important exhibition of the Flemish artist of the seventeenth century, Peter Paul Rubens.
