Meeting of the permanent office of the General Union of Arab Writers kicks off at Al-Assad Library in Damascus

Damascus hosted today, Tuesday, the 26th of July 2022, the activities of the meetings of the General Union of Arab Writers with the participation of delegations from 12 Arab countries under the title: “Literature for The Arab Cause” at Al-Assad National Library in Damascus.
The participating delegations included researchers and poets representing unions, associations, families and Arab literary societies who will present their intellectual and creative products within two days, in addition to poetry evenings with the participation of 25 poets.
The introductory meeting began with the screening of a short film prepared and directed by Imad al-Naddaf, which included an overview of the beating heart of the Arab cause, Damascus, and its role in combating terrorism, reviewing some poets and writers who resisted terrorism and conspiracies in their poetry, in addition to some of the cultural and literary activities of the Arab Writers Union in Syria, and a song that talks about Damascus entitled “This is Damascus.” from the words of the poet Tawfiq Ahmed and composed by the late musician Suhail Arafa, in the voice of the singer Shaza al-Hayek.
The activities of the event included the signing of an agreement between the Arab Writers Union in Syria and the Omani Society of Omani Writers with the aim of expanding cultural, literary and intellectual relations between the two brotherly countries.
