Foreign Ministry calls on UNSC to condemn the recent Israeli attack on the vicinity of Damascus

Damascus (ST): The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates sent two identical letters to the Secretary-General of the United Nations and the President of the Security Council regarding the Israeli criminal attack that took place at dawn today  on the vicinity of the city of Damascus.

The ministry said in its two messages: “At approximately 12:32 a.m. today, Friday, July 22, 2022, the Israeli occupation forces carried out criminal air aggression with missiles from the direction of the occupied Syrian Arab Golan, targeting some points in the vicinity of the city of Damascus. This cowardly aggression resulted in the martyrdom of three soldiers, the wounding of seven others, and material losses.”

The Ministry added, “The Syrian Arab Republic reaffirms its reservation of the right to respond by appropriate means recognized by international law and the Charter of the United Nations in the face of these repeated Israeli aggressions, and reiterates its call to the Security Council and the General Secretariat of the United Nations to exercise their responsibilities under the Charter and to condemn  without hesitation or delay the new Israeli aggression.

The ministry stressed that the repeated Israeli aggression against Syria and the Security Council’s failure to take the necessary measures to prevent the continuation of this aggression, as well as its failure to condemn it, means the Security Council’s absence from exercising its responsibilities, and its failure to carry out the minimum implementation of its duties in maintaining peace and security in the region and the world, especially that the Israeli strategy adopts killing, aggression and destruction, which increases the level of threats and challenges facing the world today and deepens instability in the region.

The ministry went on to say “It is not possible to deal with these Israeli attacks without taking into considrration the American aggressions and violations of the principles of international law, through their occupation of northeastern Syria, looting of oil and providing weapons to militias hired by them with the aim of delaying and even preventing a political solution, and obstructing the restoration of security and stability to Syria.”

The ministry pointed out that the US practices and the unlimited support it provides to armed terrorist organizations and groups that carry weapons illegally, show the hypocrisy practiced by the United States and its tools in the region, which is no longer morally or politically acceptable. Moreover, these Israeli attacks come as direct support for the terrorist organizations which spread murder throughout Syria, in order to serve the purposes of its operators in Israel, the region and the world.
