Damascus Chamber of Commerce, Paraguay’s delegation discuss prospects for economic cooperation

DAMASCUS, Jul.19, (ST)- Today, the Board of Directors of the Damascus Chamber of Commerce discussed with the delegation of the Republic of Paraguay the opportunities and prospects for economic and commercial cooperation and the ways of strengthening relations between the two countries and activating the role of the business sector for the benefit of the peoples of Syria and Paraguay.

the Chamber’s Chairman, Muhammad Abu Al-Huda Al-Lahham, stressed the importance of opening channels of communication between businessmen and establishing economic and commercial relations between the two countries.

He indicated that this visit is an important step and opportunity to have an idea about the Syrian economy on the ground and the promising investment opportunities.

For his part, the Senator Oscar Robin Solomon Fernandez, the President of the Senate of the Republic of Paraguay, declared that this visit came at the right time to discuss strategic matters and the development of relations between the two countries.

He expressed his interest in discussing the obstacles that face the development in cooperation with embassies and consulates in both countries, calling on the members of the Syrian Chambers of Commerce to visit The Republic of Paraguay this year.

Senator Juan Avara, a member of the Senate, praised the role of businessmen in communication and developing economic relations and trade exchange to pave the way for developing relations in all other sectors.

The Governor of Damascus, Adel Al-Olabi, expressed his hope that the visit would constitute a real breakthrough for increasing communication between the merchants and companies of the two countries, with the provision of mutual facilities, stressing the need to benefit from the capabilities of the Syrian community in Paraguay.

While the Secretary of the Federation of Syrian Chambers of Commerce and the Damascus Chamber of Commerce Waseem Al-Qattan spoke about the necessity of exerting efforts and cooperation in activating mutual import and export between the two countries, especially the Syrian textile and clothing industry and Syrian olive oil.

Al-Qattan suggested the establishment of a joint bank between Syria and Paraguay, which would contribute to overcoming the difficulties of financial dealing that resulted from the unjust sanctions against Syria, and thus lead to the development of trade exchange.

Fernando Parisi, Paraguayan Ambassador in Beirut and Chargé d’Affairs of his country’s embassy in Damascus, indicated to work on carrying out the project of the “Syria Week in Paraguay” and coordinate with the Paraguayan Ministry of Foreign Affairs to participate in this event.
