Abbas calls on Biden to end occupation and settlements and establish an independent Palestinian state

Occupied Jerusalem (ST): Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas called on US President Joe Biden to work to end the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories and to ensure that the Palestinian people obtain their legitimate rights in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions and the establishment of their independent Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967 line, with Jerusalem as its capital.

During a press conference with Biden in the West Bank city of Bethlehem today, Abbas stressed the need to end unilateral steps that violate international law, including stopping the forced displacement of Palestinians, stopping house demolitions, daily killings, and stopping settlements, noting that this is required to create conditions for a return to the political track and a solution to the conflict,  permanent status issues, including the Palestinian refugee issue, in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions.

The Palestinian president stressed that East Jerusalem, occupied since 1967, is the capital of the state of Palestine, calling for the need to stop the extremist groups’ incursions into the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque and to preserve the historical situation in the Christian and Islamic holy sites in Jerusalem.
