“Darb Halab” festival kicks off in the old City of Aleppo

Aleppo, (ST) –  The activities of the “Darb Halab” (Aleppo Road) festival, which is organized by the Aleppo Governorate, the Syrian Trust for Development and the Aleppo Chamber of Commerce kicked off on Wednesday in the old city markets. It includes economic, social and cultural activities, competitions and drawings for children.

The Member of the Executive Office of the Aleppo Governotrate’s Council, Zikra Hajjar, asserted in a statement to Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) the importance of this festival as it comes with the advent of the blessed Eid Al-Adha, and its organization in the ancient Aleppo markets, which is gradually returning to life through restoration work and the start of the economic movement in these markets.

The Director of the Old City of Aleppo, which is affiliated to the Aleppo City Council, Ahmed Al-Shihabi, said that the goal of the three-day festival is to shed light on the markets of the ancient city of Aleppo after its restoration and revitalization through economic, artistic, cultural, entertainment and shopping activities and to highlight its intangible heritage.

The member of the Women Entrepreneurs Committee of Aleppo Chamber of Commerce, Suha Khudair pointed out that, the Chamber’s role was supportive of the return of glory to the old Aleppo markets and a reminder of Aleppo’s commercial and economic value on the Silk Road and global trade.

The Member of the Board of Directors of the Aleppo Chamber of Commerce, Samir Koussan, said that today’s event aims to encourage the return of the Aleppo trade path to what it was by rehabilitating and building commercial markets damaged by terrorism and operating them from various sectors with the aim of returning merchants to their shops and activating the role of markets.
