Syria participates in the Conference of the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement
On July 2nd, a delegation from the People’s Assembly (Parliament) participated in the Conference of the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement.
The Conference was held in Baku, Azerbaijan, under the title (Supporting the Role of National Parliaments in Promoting World Peace and Sustainable Development).
In a speech before the conference, the head of the delegation, Faisal Azzouz, affirmed that Syria is a founding country in the Non-Aligned Movement, and it believes in its principles and ideas.
Azzouz said that Syria is always working to strengthen the Movement’s role in international relations, respecting the privacy of others, and not interfering in the internal affairs of any other country.
Azzouz indicated that extremist terrorist groups backed by major international powers sabotaged the great human heritage in Syria and wanted to undermine its unity and worked to steal its wealth, loot its food, destroy its hospitals and schools, and demolish its mosques and churches.
Azzouz called on the non-aligned countries to support the approach of Syria’s stability and territorial integrity, stressing that the practices carried out by the US and Turkish occupations of parts of the Syrian land are illegal.
Azzouz explained what Syria is facing on the humanitarian level from the unilateral coercive economic measures and their repercussions on the Syrian people, as they affected livelihoods, medicine, food, oil derivatives, baby milk and medical supplies.
Azzouz said that Syria, with its loyal people and army defending its land, sovereignty, independence, and leadership that believes in the will of its people and their fixed and legitimate right to defend its territorial integrity, sovereignty, dignity and independence.
On the sidelines of the conference, the Syrian delegation met delegations of a number of brotherly Arab countries, including Iraq, Libya, Algeria, Egypt, Bahrain and the Palestinians.
During the conference, which concluded on July 1st, the Baku Declaration and the statute on the working methods of the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement were adopted, the official logo and flag of the network were adopted, and a president and three deputies for the network were elected.
