Palestinian female prisoner martyred in Israeli jails due to medical negligence

Saadia Matar, a 68-year-old female Palestinian prisoner in Israeli jails, died this morning in the Israeli prison of Damon, due to the deliberate medical negligence policy adopted by the occupation authorities against the prisoners, according to the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS).

Matar, a mother of eight from the town of Idna in the south of the West Bank, was arrested by the Israeli occupation forces in December and has been in detention since then.

Spokesman of the PPS Amjad Najjar  said in a statement to Maan news Agency that Matar suffered from several illnesses, pointing out that the prisoners’ institutions have submitted several requests to the occupation authorities to allow her to see a doctor, but the requests were refused.

Matar died because of the policy of deliberate medical negligence adopted by the occupation against the prisoners, Najjar said, urging international legal and humanitarian organizations to immediately interfere as to save the lives of the sick prisoners in the occupation jails.

Saadia Matar is the oldest female prisoner in Israeli jails and she is believed to be the 230th Palestinian to die while in Israeli imprisonment or detention. She was one of 29 female Palestinian political prisoners in the Israeli prison of Damon, near Haifa.

The oldest-serving of the 29 female Palestinian prisoners in Damon is Maison Musa, from Bethlehem, who has been in prison since 2015 and is serving a 15-year sentence.
