Syria wins two gold, one silver medals at the Oran 2022 Mediterranean Games

Syria on Friday made a major achievement at the Oran 2022 Mediterranean Games by winning two gold medals in boxing and equestrian sports and a silver medal in high jumping.

One of the gold medals went to Syrian boxer Ahmed Ghuoun after beating his Algerian counterpart Younis Namoushi in the final game within the competitions of the 75 kg weight category.

Ghusoun qualified to the finals after beating a French boxer in the semi-finals and a Serbian boxer in the first term.

It is to be noted that Ghusoun had won a gold medal in the last Mediterranean Games in Spain in the competitions of the same category.

Another gold medal went to the Syrian show jumping team, which comprises the equestrians Shadi Gharib, Ahmed Hamshou, Laith Ali and Amr Hamshou, after beating the participating teams from Europe, Africa and Asia.

In 1987, the Syrian team won a silver medal in the show jumping competitions of the 10th Mediterranean Games held in Syria’s Lattakia.

Also at the Oran 2022 Mediterranean Games, Syrian high jumper Majd Eddin Ghazal won a silver medal after jumping a height of 222 cm. During the competitions he beat a  number of European competitors from Italy, Turkey, Cyprus and France.
