Syrian Electronic Payment Co. launches “SEP Online” platform

DAMASCUS, Jun.30, (ST)- The Syrian Electronic Payment Company  announced today the launching of the national e-commerce platform “SEP Online” in Syria, within a press conference held by the Ministry of Communications at the headquarters of the Syrian Telecom Company.

The “SEP Online” platform enables customers of operating banks and cellular companies that are linked to the Syrian Company for Electronic Payments system to pay money when completing government transactions electronically or during electronic shopping using the platform account consisting of a user name created with one of the operating banks or cellular companies and linked to the bank account or email to the customer.

The Minister of Communications and Technology, Iyad Al-Khatib, said during the conference that the platform is one of the main and important components of the electronic payment system, as it has been created by national expertise and cadres of the Syrian Electronic Payments Company and the Central Bank of Syria in cooperation with the technical staff of public and private banks.

He clarified that e-commerce is one of the important fields in business due to the rapid technological development and the great opportunities it provides for small and medium enterprises by displaying their products in the new digital markets.

Al-Khatib referred to the government’s efforts to establish an electronic payment infrastructure that enhances various financial activities such as shopping and e-commerce, which contributes to the advancement of the digital economy.

For his part, the Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade, Samer Al-Khalil, stressed during the conference the importance of launching the platform in terms of developing and modernizing electronic payment methods and financial exchanges and keeping pace with technological developments in the countries of the world, noting that the platform will contribute, through the promotion of payment services and e-shopping, to supporting the national economy with all its components, especially in the commercial and financial fields.
