Syria, Russia ink two judicial agreements on the sidelines of the 10th  International Law Forum

DAMASCUS, Jun.30, (ST)-Syrian delegation headed by  the Minister of Justice Ahmed Al-Sayyed, has taken part  in the 10th  International Law Forum being held in Saint Petersburg in Russia with the participation of more than 90 countries.

According to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), the minister affirmed in his speech at the forum Syria’s commitment to the provisions of international law.

“Syria, despite being exposed to terrorism, always works to implement the law, maintain fair trial guarantees, and keep pace with electronic developments in the field of justice in order to reach a just, fast and available judicial service for all,” Al-Sayyed clarified.

He indicated that the amnesty decree recently issued by President Bashar Al-Assad withheld amnesty for foreign terrorists because of the Syrian state’s belief in not re-exporting terrorism with the aim of preserving global peace and security, referring to the fact that Syria is fighting terrorism on behalf of the world.

The Minister also signed with the Russian Minister of Justice Konstantin Chuichenko two judicial agreements on the sidelines of the forum.
The first agreement includes provisions on extradition between the two countries, while the second one is related to the legal cooperation and mutual assistance in criminal cases.

The forum’s activities included several meetings and seminars about international law topics, and an open meeting on modern trends in the development of the justice system in countries.

The Forum is an important platform for discussing a wide range of issues regarding the history and development of law by the justice ministers of the participating countries, senior jurists and practicing lawyers, as well as academic students.
