Syria takes part in Oran 2022 Mediterranean Games due to open today

The 19th Mediterranean Games will open this evening in the Algerian city of Oran with the participation of Syria.

More than 5000, including 3390 athletes from 26 countries, are taking part in the Oran 2022 Mediterranean Games, which will continue until July 6th. They will compete in 24 sports.

The Mediterranean Village was opened yesterday in Oran, the second largest Algerian city after Algiers, to host this sport event. The venue includes stadiums, halls, accommodation places and restaurants for the participating delegations.

Syria will take part in the event in 7 games including boxing, weightlifting, wrestling, equestrian, athletics, gymnastics and Judo. The athletes received intensive training to raise their skills and their participation in this tournament aims at enhancing their experience. They hope that they will compete strongly to achieve gold medals in this huge continental sporting event.

The Syrian mission includes distinguished players, most notable of which are the weightlifter Maan As’ad, who won a bronze medal at Tokyo Olympic Games 2020, and the high jumper Majd Eddin Ghazal, who won a gold medal in the last edition of the Mediterranean Games.
