In front of President Al-Assad, the president and members of the Supreme Constitutional Court take the constitutional oath

On June 19th, the President and members of the Supreme Constitutional Court were sworn in before President Bashar Al-Assad, in the presence of Hamouda Sabbagh, Speaker of the People’s Assembly (Parliament)

After that, President Al-Assad met with the president and members of the court, and they discussed the importance of the role of the Supreme Constitutional Court and the integration of its work with the rest of the legal bodies in order to enhance the strength of the law and the authority of the judiciary. 

The court’s work in terms of monitoring the constitutionality of laws and legislative decrees was also discussed, especially in light of the ongoing process of reviewing and studying existing laws and legislation with the aim of amending them to be in an optimal and comprehensive form and re-issuing them again, or adopting new legislation and laws according to the need and public interest.

On May 15th, 2022, President Al-Assad issued Decree No. 127 to renew the nomination of lawyer Muhammad Jihad al-Lahham as head of the Supreme Constitutional Court, renewing the nomination of 6 members and naming 4 new members.
