Syria, China hold talks on cooperation in the fields of health and scientific research

Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Bassam Ibrahim and the Chinese Ambassador to Syria Feng Biao on Monday discussed ways of enhancing cooperation in the fields of technology, scientific research and health, as well as in the domains of capacity building, human resources and mutual scholarships.

Ibrahim hailed the deep relations between the two countries in scientific research which has achieved major successes at all levels.

He showed appreciation for the financial grant provided by the Chinese Embassy to Al-Assad University Hospital in Damascus, in addition to the role played by China during the terrorist war on Syria through supporting the Syrian educational hospitals, especially during the Corona pandemic crisis. He noted the importance of making maximum use of the available scientific capabilities and implementing the executive programs in a way that achieves the common interest of the two countries and boosts cooperation between the Syrian and Chinese universities.

He expressed hope that the scholarships offered by the People’s Republic of China, especially in some engineering and medical specializations, will be increased.

On his part, the Chinese Ambassador said that Syria and China are two friends throughout history, pointing out that offering a financial grant to Al-Assad University Hospital will signal the beginning of consolidating cooperation with this hospital.

He added that the return of Syrian students studying in China has been approved and they will return in batches, pointing out that the embassy continues to coordinate with the Syrian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research with the aim of increasing scholarships, especially for postgraduates.
