Russia takes conciliatory position between Syria and US – Syrian ambassador to Russia

Russia took a conciliatory attitude between Syria and the United States, Syrian Ambassador to Russia Riyadh Haddad said on Tuesday, according to Voice of Russia.

“If Russia said it would join Syria in any confrontation the world would gasp at the danger of a new world war. Who will stop Moscow and Washington? Thus, Russia has taken a conciliatory position between the United States and Syria,” the Syrian ambassador said.

“Moscow told Damascus it would be always with those who opposed the aggression by relying on international law. This position allows us to eliminate the consequences of the conflict before they pose a threat to security and stability of the whole region,” Haddad said.

Russia will exert maximum effort to prevent a military scenario in Syria, stated the Foreign Ministry’s special envoy for the Middle East resolution, Sergei Vershinin.

“We believe that as long as time is necessary to talk and act. Our parliamentarians seek to go to the United States. Every day will be devoted to doing everything possible to prevent the negative scenario,” Vershinin said.

“We come against the military scenario in compliance with the norms of international law,” he added.

Syria attack would shatter intl set-up – Russian diplomat

Russia warns that a military attack on Syria would lead to a regional conflagration and also deal a severe blow to the existing system of international relations.

The Foreign Ministry’s Middle East envoy Sergey Vershinin spoke about this at a session of Russia’s Public Chamber held in Moscow on Tuesday.

Senior Defence Ministry official Oleg Dogayev said the presence of missile-carrying American warships in the Eastern Mediterranean upsets the balance of military power in this area.

Syrian Ambassador Riyad Haddad, who was a guest speaker, said an attack on Syria might create a spillover of extremism to foreign countries including Russia.
