Cuban President: Washington doesn’t have the moral legitimacy to talk about democracy

President Miguel Diaz Canel has stressed that the United States has lost the moral legitimacy to talk about democracy, condemning the exclusion of his country from the 9th Summit of the Americas in Los Angeles.

Speaking to Representatives of the civil society in Havana on Wednesday, Canel said that promoting democracy and human rights in America is nothing but an illusion, pointing out that United States is not able to guarantee the rights of its citizens on its territories.

He added that basic health services are not guaranteed in United States and arms sales are given a priority over children rights or children education, criticizing discrimination and the use of democracy term for political purposes.

The Cuban president said that the 9th Summit of the Americas has a neo-colonialist nature, as the United States excluded Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua.

He stressed that the United States has the ability to prevent Cuba’s presence in Los Angeles, but it does not have the power to silence its voice or hide the truth.
