DAMASCUS,(ST)_ Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Dr. Faisal Mikdad warned against the repercussions of the US aggression against Syria on the Middle East region.
In an interview with the US TV Channel ( CBS) Miqdad said that ” the entire Middle East will be set on fire if the United States attacks Syria.”
” The accusations made by the US to Syria of using chemical weapons are not based on any evidence .”Miqdad added.
“If the US has such an evidence it will provide it to the UN , ” Miqdad said, adding ” We made clear evidences on the armed groups use of chemical weapons to both the UN and the Russian Federation .”
Miqdad pointed out that when ” a state violates the international law , the US or its Western allies are not responsible for holding it accountable , because all these countries should return to the UN Charter to see whether the said state violated the international law and endangered world peace.”
He questioned the real interest of the US to attack Syria , saying: “If the US administration wants the disarmament of chemical weapons, Syria presented to the Security Council before the end of its non- permanent membership in the Council in 2003, a draft resolution provided for the elimination of weapons of mass destruction from the Middle East, but the US stood against the said draft resolution , ” noting that ” if the US wants to serve the Syrian people, it will not kill them nor destroy their potentials. “
The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and expatriates considered that the ” beneficiary party from any aggression against Syria will be al-Nusra Front, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant and al-Qaeda , while the Syrian people will be the victim.”
Miqdad denounced what is being said about the possibility of Syria attacking Jordan , noting that ” Jordan is a brotherly Arab country , and that what is required is Jordan not to threaten Syria ‘s security , safety and stability nor to be a conduit for aggression against it.”
Dr. Miqdad concluded the interview by stressing the “right of Syria to challenge and retaliate the aggression by all means and that the Syrian people stand behind their leadership to confront this aggression”.
