The World Syrian Artist Sarah Shamma takes part in “from Rome to Ripon” Project in Britain

Sarah Shamma is displaying a collection of her paintings depicting Saint Wilfrid, the founder of Ripon Cathedral.

With the aim of attracting visitors, the paintings are displayed in the cathedral nave , which lies under the Anglo-Saxon floor of the cathedral and is the last remnant of Wilfrid Church, that was founded on the site in AD 672 and is the oldest surviving building in any English cathedral.

The producer of (Art in Churches) Chris Bailey expressed in a statement that Sana received a copy of it, about his happiness for Shamma’s participation in the project stressing “We are very fortunate that we succeeded in joining the Syrian artist Sarah Shamma to our project as her paintings have a worldwide reputation and the artist managed to reimagined . St. Wilfrid, along with his patron, Queen Enfield”.

It is noteworthy that “from Rome to Ripon” project is a partnership between Ripon Cathedral and the Foundation “Art in Churches” . The cathedral is located in the English county of Yorkshire and is considered one of the most important archaeological and religious monuments in Britain.

It is worth mentioning that the artist Sarah Shamma was born in Damascus in 1975, a graduate of “Adham Ismail”Center for Fine Arts in 1995, holding a BA in Painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts, Damascus University in 1998.

She has about 20 solo exhibitions and 30 collective exhibitions which were held in many Arab and international capitals.

Shamma has won a number of local, Arab and international awards, and her paintings are acquired by the Ministry of Culture, the National Museum in Damascus, the British Council and the Spanish Cultural Center in addition to Syria. Her artworks are distributed in Lebanon, Jordan, the Emirates, Tunisia, Kuwait, Egypt, Spain, Ecuador, Germany, Britain, Austria, France, Canada, Holland, America and Japan.
