“Golan in Our Eyes” Festival Affirms Golan people’s Adherence to Syrian Identity

AL-SWIEDA, (ST) – The “Golan in Our Eyes” Festival, held recently in Sewida marking the 31st anniversary of the great general strike of our people in the occupied Syrian Golan against the Israeli annexation decision and in rejection of the Israeli identity, concluded its activities yesterday.

During a symposium held under the same title on the sideline of the festival, released captive Medhat al- Saleh stressed that “our people in the occupied Syrian Golan continue to stress their adherence to their Arab identity and the Syrian Arab belongingness.”

“Despite all the Israeli occupation’s repressive and brutal policies, people of the Golan keep affirming their refusal to recognize the Israeli void and illegal decisions,” he added.

“Our people in the Golan Heights at that time resisted occupation authorities measures of confiscating lands and imposing Israeli citizenship on them. This resistance led the Zionist entity to siege the occupied villages, arrest dozens of Syrian citizens and adopt arbitrary sentences to imprison them for long years.”  Al-Saleh pointed out.

The festival included a number of different artistic activities, poetry evenings and competitions for children.
