US Still Responsible for What is Happening in Syria- Churkin

US NEWYORK(,(ST)_ Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN Dr. Vitaly Churkin stressed that the US declared position on not arming the opposition in Syria does not absolve its responsibility for what is happening there.

“the US has a tremendous influence on countries such as Qatar, which is a major source of support and supply for the armed opposition with weapons ,” said Churkin in an interview with Russia Today TV on Saturday, adding ” If Washington pursued a strict policy in this regard it would be able to use its influence on the countries providing the Syrian opposition with weapons.”
“It is likely that the US began to realize that events are taking a dangerous turn as it became clear that the original scenario, to overthrow the Syrian leadership and the triumph of democracy in two months is unrealistic and far from the real situation in the country.” Churkin added.
