Improving Humanitarian Situation in Syria Requires Halting Opposition Combat Operations: Moscow

MOSCOW, (ST) _The Russian foreign ministry announced that the improvement of the humanitarian situation in Syria needs halting combat operations , foremost by the opposition factions and maintaining  comprehensive dialogue between the government and the opposition according to Geneva statement. It  renewed  Russia ‘s position  in calling for ending violence and launching dialogue.

In its Comment on the  UN Security Council discussions  of the human rights  situation in Syria,  Quoted by  (Russia Today) Channel, the press and information section at the  Russian foreign ministry  said:”the improvement of the humanitarian situation and human rights in Syria depends directly on ending  hostilities between all parties , especially by the armed opposition groups and the maintaining  a political and diplomatic settlement of the crisis. “

The Russian Foreign Ministry stressed that Moscow reiterates  the need for an immediate halting  of violence and the launch of a comprehensive dialogue between the government and the opposition, according to Geneva statement.

The  Russian Foreign  commended  the willingness Syrian government to cooperate with international humanitarian agencies , noting  that Russia shares the opinion  held by  the UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Valerie Amos on that  “the major  difficulties facing the delivery of humanitarian assistance are in  areas controlled by the armed opposition . A fact confirmed by representatives of international humanitarian organizations working on the ground there. “

On January 18th, the UN Security Council held  a session dedicated  for the humanitarian situation in Syria.
