Iran, Russia Plan to Sign Several Security Agreements

Iran and Russia plan to sign several agreements during the visit to Iran by Russian Minister of Internal Affairs Vladimir Alexandrovich Kolokoltsev to further boost the two countries’ cooperation in security fields.   

Speaking to reporters after a meeting with Kolokoltsev here in Tehran today, Iranian Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad Najjar described cooperation between Iran and Russia in political, security, economic and social fields are “good and progressive”.

He added that during the Russian minister’s two day visit, development of the two countries’ ties in trade, economy as well as security fields will be discussed,according to FNA.

“Also during the visit, Iran and Russia will sign security agreements on campaign against organized crimes, human trafficking, narcotics, illegal migration, cooperation and coordination for exchanging experience as well as cooperation between the two countries’ police and adoption of new mechanism for improving security in the region,” Mohammad Najjar said.

Last January, the two sides signed two agreements to bolster the two countries’ security and anti-drug cooperation.

Tehran and Moscow had previously agreed to establish a joint intelligence team to exchange information and plan joint operations.

Also, in December 2010, Iran and Russia signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in campaigning narcotics and drug-traffickers.
