Iran Warns US of Crossing “Red Line” on Syria

TEHRAN- Deputy Chief of staff of Iran’s armed forces Massoud Jazayeri on Sunday stressed that the ongoing terrorist war against Syria is the result of a scheme drawn up against resistance by America and reactionary powers in the region.

According to Fars news agency, Jazayeri warned the United States against crossing the “red line” on Syria, saying it would have “severe consequences”.

“America knows the limitation of the red line of the Syrian front and any crossing of Syria’s red line will have severe consequences for the White House,” said Jazayeri, reacting to statements by Western officials regarding the possibility of military intervention in Syria.

“Despite the global war hatched against Syria, the Syrian people, army and government, have been able to withstand the aggression and achieve remarkable victories,” said Jazayeri.

He added that all the parties who cooperate with America and the Zionist Entity in the war against Syria and who fed this aggression have faced troubles.

Meantime, the Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani condemned the US and Israeli schemes which aim at feeding conflicts, creating chaos and destabilizing the entire region.

During a parliament session on Sunday, Larijani, who affirmed his confidence that victory will be attained over these schemes, said that what is going on in Egypt, Syria and Lebanon paves the way for America and the Israeli entity to seize the opportunity and fuel sedition in the region and attain false peace with Palestine to start a new era of oppression against the Palestinian people.

Earlier, Iranian Ambassador to Russia Mahmoud Reza Sajjad, said that Iran wants to play a role in the international conference on Syria.

“Yes, we will insist on our presence. Iran is an influential state in the region and it could play a constructive role,” he said in an interview with Interfax.

On whether Iran is prepared to share the negotiating table with Qatar and Saudi Arabia, he said, “I don’t know if these two countries will be invited. Anyway, we think we can play an important role and we take our presence at this conference very seriously.”

Hopefully, the planned international conference will be held in Geneva after all, even though “the Syrian opposition has been demonstrating it has no stimulus to participate.”

“There are two reasons for that. First, the Syrian opposition is not united and they have been unable to come to terms. And second, the opposition suffered defeats far too often. They fear they will look weak if they participate,” Sajjadi said, according to the Voice of Russia.

Iran does not think the United States and European countries feel serious about the conference, Sajjadi also said. “They have been verbally demonstrating their willingness to hold the conference.

But in actual fact, we hear reports they supply weapons to the terrorists in Syria,” he said.

The West “is not taking the trouble to put pressure on the forces patronizing the terrorists who are sort of their allies in the region,” the Iranian ambassador said.

“They either do not know what to do, or are saying things they themselves do not believes in. I think they are playing for time,” Sajjadi said.
