28 athletes to represent Syria in 2nd Asian Youth Games

DAMASCUS , (ST)- The national sporting teams on Monday left for China to take part in  the  2ndAsian Youth Games hosted by Nanjing city.

The event runs from  14 through 24August.

The national teams include 28 athletes who will compete in the following seven sports: handball, judo, swimming, track and field events , weightlifting, table tennis and tennis.

Held every four years, the 2nd Asian Youth Games will take place in Nanjing,China.

The inaugural edition was held in 2009 in Singapore in preparation of the Youth Olympic Games ,attracting 1,321 athletes who participated in nine sporting disciplines over 90 events.

Featuring he budding talents of 45 Asian nations ,the 2nd Asian Youth Games event will expand  to 118 events and continue to feature Olympic  disciplines such as diving, swimming, football, handball, badminton, table tennis and weightlifting .

In this year’s edition of the championships, approximately  3900 athletes will compete in the Games representing 45 countries.
