Jaafari Called on AL to Break Free from Petrodollar Control

NEWYORK,(ST)_ Syria’s permanent representative to the UN Dr. Bashar Jaafari, called on the Arab League to break free from the control of petrodollars and resort to reason and international law and respect rules of its  charter, pointing out that Arab states , especially Qatar and Saudi Arabia have worked to use AL institutions to serve hostile foreign agendas against the interest of Arab countries and peoples.

Al-Jaafari said in Syria speech in the meeting held by the UN Security Council yesterday on “Cooperation between the UN and regional and sub- regional organizations in maintaining international peace and security that ,” the integration efforts of the UN and regional organizations in the common issues , especially keeping international peace and security ensure achieving value added to its work, however, that success in this requires consistent efforts with international law ,and principles of the UN Charter.

Syria is a Founding member of the Arab League

al- Jaafari added that Syria is a founding member of the Arab League and led throughout its history a pivotal role in the joint Arab action , defended Arab nation issues and committed to the joint Arab defense Convention , and that national interest has been the Supreme vein in the Syrian foreign policy, a matter which exposed Syria to lot of pressures and attacks that affected Syrian people’s livelihood and well-being.

Jaafari stressed that Syria welcomed AL involvement in the efforts to resolve the crisis in Syria, believing that the AL will play a positive role in uncovering the true dimensions of the situation and help stop the violence and support the national dialogue launched by the Syrian government.

“In this context, the Syrian government collaborated with the AL General Secretariat committed to implementing the action plan that has been agreed upon between the two sides and opened its doors for Arabs observers , however, certain Arab countries , especially Qatar and Saudi Arabia took advantage of the volatile situation experienced by some countries in the region to hijack Arab decision-making mechanisms in  the AL either by, threatening , or tempting by “diplomatic checkbook”, al-Jaafari said, adding that the two countries used the AL institutions to serve hostile foreign agendas not in favor of the Arab countries and their peoples .

“The deviation started with the AL secretariat abortion of the Arab observers mission ,and opacity on its findings before the UN Security Council to the fact that this mission has highlighted since the beginning of the crisis and the existence of armed groups that committed acts of violence and terrorism in many areas in Syria , exploiting reformist legitimate demands in implementation of foreign agendas that threaten Syria ‘s security and stability ,” Jaafari added, noting that a series of illegal resolutions were issued aiming not only to manipulate the role of regional organizations but to internationalize the Syrian crisis and bring in foreign interference in the internal affairs of Syria.” Jaafari underlined.

He indicated that the last of these AL these decisions was that dealing just with one party of foreign Syrian opposition, funded by Saudi Arabia and Qatar , a matter , which blatantly violates the AL Charter , principles of international law and the ABC of Arab – international relations.

Qatar, Saudi Arabia Pressured to Provide Weapons to Terrorist Groups in Syria

The Syrian Permanent representative to the UN explained that Qatar and Saudi Arabia, despite objection of other Arab states, pressured to pass a draft resolution providedfor the Arab States wishing to provide arms to the Syrian opposition and armed terrorist groups sponsored by the Turkish government , a matter which undermined the mission of UN envoy Lakhdar Brahimi , an explicit recognition of some AL member states of arming terrorist groups , in violation of UN Security Council Resolutions 2042/2043, which affirm the need to reach a solution through a political process led by Syria and abort endeavors to hold an international conference on Syria.

“This rudely violates the obligations of Arab countries members in the AL under the common defense convention and the provisions of its Charter as well as principles of international law and the objectives of the United Nations especially second article of the Charter on the principles of sovereignty , in non-interference in the internal affairs of States and peaceful settlement of disputes and refraining from the use of force “, Jafaary stressed , adding that this decision also represents an infringement on the role of the Security Council in maintaining international peace and security under Article 24 of its Charter .”

He went on that such decisions fuel the crisis in Syria and hinder efforts to find a political solution and causing more damage to the Syrian state of the people and support terrorism, which all countries of the world have agreed on the need to combat it.

al-Jaafari called on the Arab League to be part of the peaceful political solution , not be part of the region’s problems , in the service of foreign agendas that harm the interests of the Arab peoples and promote the so-called phenomenon of the Arab Spring, which is in fact a winter bitterly hit the stability, safety and welfare of the Arab peoples .

al-Jaafari also called on the AL to be free from the control of petrodollars , to resort to the reason of mind and of international law and stay away from the resonant terminology created by others to destroy Arab states solidarity and , territorial integrity and work to serve the Arab issues, particularly ending the Israeli occupation of Arab territories.
