The international envoy to Yemen announces agreement to renew the armistice for two months

The United Nations Special Envoy to Yemen, Hans Grandberg, announced that all parties agreed on the United Nations’ proposal to renew the armistice in force in Yemen for an additional period of two months and to enter into force starting today in accordance with the provisions of the same original agreement, which entered into force on April 2, 2022.

Grandberg said in a press statement today: The parties responded to the United Nations proposal to renew the truce in force for an additional two months, during which more fuel will enter the ports of Hodeidah and commercial flights inside and outside Sanaa airport to predetermined destinations in the region.

Grandberg stressed that for the first time, under the auspices of the United Nations, the conflicting parties have made progress towards opening roads in Taiz and in other governorates and implementing mechanisms to reduce military escalation at the country level.

Grandberg added that he will continue to work with the parties to implement and consolidate the elements of the truce in full, and move towards a sustainable political solution to this conflict that meets the legitimate aspirations and demands of Yemenis, noting that the implementation and renewal of the truce now provided a glimmer of hope for Yemenis that it is possible to end this devastating conflict.

It is noteworthy that the Saudi regime forces and their mercenaries continue to violate the truce that was reached last April, as well as their suffocating siege of the Yemeni people.
