Syria participates in the “Conference on Aging” in Beirut

Beirut, (ST)  On Wednesday, with the participation of Syria, the work of the Fourth Review Conference of the Madrid International Plan of Action on Aging in the Arab Region, which is being held by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) in cooperation with the United Nations Population Fund, began in Beirut.

The Head of the Planning and International Cooperation Authority, Dr. Fadi Salti Khalil, indicated that Syria has made great progress in the field of empowering and protecting the elderly, while Eng. Samar Al-SibaiHead of the Syrian Commission for Family Affairs stressed the importance of integration in the roles of both the government and civil organizations in improving the services provided to the elderly. She said that, the pioneering experiences of the participating countries should be benefited from in investing the experiences of the elderly and the mechanisms for transferring these experiences to subsequent generations.

It is noteworthy that the Madrid International Plan of Action on Aging was approved by the United Nations in 2002 and addresses how the world addresses the main challenge of population aging. The plan is reviewed and evaluated every five years.
