Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Bashar Al-Jaafari met with Khaled Khiari, the Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations in the Department of Political Affairs, Peacebuilding and Peace Operations, and his accompanying delegation, and General Ishwar Hamal, commander of the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force
(UNDOF).
The two sides discussed the work of the UN observer forces in the occupied Syrian Golan.
Al-Jaafari stressed the necessity that these forces retain the important role entrusted to them in their mandate and regain their lost positions due to the terrorists supported by the Israeli occupation entity.
Al-Jaafari stressed the need to monitor all Israeli violations of the 1974 Separation of Forces Agreement, which poses a threat to the lives of the Syrians.
Al-Jaafari urged both the Assistant Secretary-General and the General Commander of the UNDOF forces to work for the reopening of the Quneitra crossing, which was closed by the Israeli occupation forces.
In turn, the Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations thanked Syria for the continued great support it provides to UNDOF.
The Commander of UNDOF, General Eswar Hamal, spoke about the great support that the UNDOF forces receive from the Syrian side and his appreciation of Syria’s adherence to its commitments stipulated in the agreement
The Commander of UNDOF, General EswarHamal promised to discuss all the points raised during the meeting with his superiors to implement them.
The meeting was attended by Brigadier General Azdshir Al-Hourani, head of the armistice delegation’s office, Rania Al-Hajj Ali, director of the International Organizations Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Yamen Yassouf, director of the Deputy Foreign Minister’s office, Tamim Al-Madani from the International Organizations Department, and Nizar Kbebo from the deputy’s office.
