Al-Moallem, Lavrov Affirm Rejection of Anti-Syria Politicized Campaign Regarding Alleged Chemical Attack

DAMASCUS, (ST)-  Deputy Premier, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Walid al-Moallem and the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, in a phone conversation on Wednesday, exchanged viewpoints on the allegations and claims circulated by the terrorist groups as well as by their regional and western supporting parties and their affiliated media and that accuse the Syrian Arab army of using chemical weapons in attacks on Khan Sheikhoun town in Idleb.

The phone conversation comes within the framework of continuous consultation and coordination between the foreign ministries of  Syria and Russia.

The two sides’ views were identical as regards refusing the politicized campaign targeting Syria. They stressed the two countries’ firm condemnation of using chemical weapons by any party at any time or place and under whatever circumstances.

 Al-Moallem and Lavrov reiterated that it is important to continue fighting terrorism and simultaneously work to reach political solution to the crisis in Syria.

They agreed on continuous consultations between the foreign ministries of the two countries.

West Risks Receiving Russia’s ‘Categorical Veto’ Over UNSC Resolution on Syria

Russia is ready to veto UN Security Council resolution on Syria if partners rush the vote without holding preliminary consultations, Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov said Wednesday.

The United Kingdom, France and the United States have introduced a draft resolution in the UNSC on alleged April 4 chemical attack in Syria’s Idlib province purportedly carried out by the Syrian army, according to Sputnik.

“The Westerners are deliberately trying to speed up this process and adopt this resolution as quickly as possible,” Gatilov told Russian reporters in Brussels.

“They can certainly introduce this issue for voting without consultations, but will obviously receive our categorical veto,” Gatilov stressed.
