Church Restored In Daraa

Our Lady of the Annunciation Church in Daraa is restored In cooperation with the local community in the town of Shaqra in the countryside of Daraa governorate, Izra’a Antiquities Department there completed emergency restoration works for the historic Church of Our Lady of the Annunciation.

“Our Lady of the Annunciation Church is an ancient building that has been subjected to vandalism and looting by terrorist organizations during the past ten years” MiladAl-Matrood Head of Izra’a Antiquities Department told SANA.

 

He indicated that the Church , which is located within the archaeological area in the town of Shaqra, is one of the archaeological buildings that has preserved its architectural and engineering design .

Al-Matrood reviewed the brutal attacks on the church during the ten years of terrorist war on Syria that caused several causalities in addition to the looting its contents.

He pointed out that the emergency restoration works aimed at returning the church back to its tourist position as one of the most important archaeological landmarks in Daraa Governorate.

It is worth mentioning that the founding of Our Lady of the Annunciation Church dates back to the fifth and sixth centuries AD.
