Cuba: Summit of the Americas excludes important issues

Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister Carlos Fernandez de Cossio criticized that the Summit of the Americas, scheduled in Los Angeles in the United States next June, has excluded from its agenda major issues including the illegal coercive measures imposed on some countries as well as the policy of marginalization.

Telesur Television quoted de Cossio as saying yesterday: “The Ninth Summit of the Americas will not discuss sensitive issues in the region, including racism, women’s rights and the policy of marginalization. The agenda of the summit does not include analysis and discussion of important topics such as the impact of coercive measures on states and inequality in the right of access to health care services.” 
 
De Cossio pointed out that Washington says it has not yet invited any party to attend the summit, but we know very well that it has the intention to exclude Cuba from it. “If a country does not have the ability to guarantee the participation of all, it should not bear the obligation to hold a summit on its territory,” he added.
 
De Cossio indicated that Washington’s policy with regard to Cuba aims mainly to change the economic and social system in Cuba and isolate it from the international community.
