His Holiness Mor Ignatius Aphrem II, Patriarch of Antioch and All the East, Supreme Head of the Syriac Orthodox Church in the world, called for the lifting of illegal sanctions against Syria.
During his speech at the opening session of the 12th General Assembly of the Middle East Council of Churches held at the Logos Center in Wadi El-Natrun, Egypt, Patriarch Ephrem II indicated that the economic crisis and the unjust sanctions imposed by individual countries without any legitimacy affected the Syrian people in their livelihood, expressing thanks to all the friends who support and assist Syria in facing poverty and provide what is possible of the basics and necessities of life.
His Holiness also denounced the European Union’s intention to impose sanctions on Moscow Patriarch Kirill, head of the Russian Orthodox Church. His Holiness prayed for peace in Syria and the whole world.
