Industrialists of Damascus and its countryside demand more facilities for industrial establishments to continue production

The participants in the annual meeting of the General Authority of Damascus and Damascus Countryside Chamber of Industry demanded the provision of more facilities for their industrial establishments in order to continue production, secure the needs of the local market, dispense with imports, provide foreign exchange, and export the surplus to foreign markets.

In the meeting held at Al-Sham Hotel, the industrialists called for supporting the competitiveness of Syrian products, the shipping sector and maritime transport, developing the field of training for workers in establishments, standardizing electricity prices for industrial zones, and increasing the allocations of factories from industrial diesel.

A number of industrialists also drew attention to the importance of supporting the film and television industry, providing facilities for importing its own equipment, and permitting obtaining licenses to import raw materials for the food industries to ensure that production does not stop and the development of specifications for Syrian products.

Minister of Industry Ziad Sabbagh highlighted the efforts made by the ministry to meet these demands in cooperation with the various ministries concerned. The government pays great attention to this sector and is working to support it and secure the requirements for the work of its facilities within the available capabilities with regard to fuel and foreign exchange. He noted the steadfastness of the industrialists and the continuation of the work of their facilities despite the challenges imposed by the terrorist war on Syria and the economic blockade.

In turn, the head of Damascus and Damascus countryside Chamber of Industry, Samer al-Dibs, indicated that the Chamber is following up on industrialists’ issues with the government team to find appropriate solutions, pointing out that the decrees, laws and decisions recently issued support industrial work and open the door to increasing investments in addition to providing banking facilities and marketing and promoting national industrial products locally and abroad.

For his part, the chamber’s treasurer, Ayman Mawlawi, presented the final budget for 2021, the estimated budget for 2022.
