Al-Miqdad discusses with Al-Waer ways of delivering aid to those who deserve it

Dr. Faisal Al-Miqdad, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, received this morning Abdul Hakim Al-Waer, Assistant Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

Minister Miqdad expressed the Syrian government’s appreciation for what has been achieved in building the foundations of current and future cooperation between the Syrian government and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in the field of supporting the agricultural and food sector, and welcomed the efforts made by the organization in providing inputs to the agricultural production process, as well as all that the organization does in the fields of rehabilitation, training and providing expertise.

 

Al-Miqdad expressed his hope that international organizations operating in Syria would abide by their responsibilities and ensure that aid reaches those who deserve it, because the main objective of the work of these organizations should focus on alleviating as much as possible the suffering of the Syrian people and helping them obtain their basic food needs that were secured by the Syrian state.

The Foreign Affairs Minister stressed that the Syrian government provides all necessary facilities and support to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) to enable it to carry out its basic tasks through continuous cooperation and coordination between the Syrian government and the organization’s office in Damascus.

For his part, Al-Waer expressed his gratitude and thanks for the facilities provided by the Syrian government, in particular, in order for the organization to carry out its tasks and implement its activities in the framework of supporting the agricultural sector in both its plant and animal parts. Al-Waer also gave a detailed presentation of all the projects and activities carried out by the organization in Syria in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform, the Ministry of Water Resources and other government agencies.

Al-Waer explained that the purpose of his visit to Syria is to learn about the priorities and strategies at the level of the Syrian state and to deepen partnerships to provide the necessary support.

The meeting was attended from the Syrian side by Dr. Bashar Al-Jaafari, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Fayez Al-Miqdad, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform, Engineer Jihad Kanaan, Deputy Minister of Water Resources, Engineer Nazek Al-Ali, Director of Planning at the Ministry of Agriculture, Rania Al-Hajj Ali, Director of Organizations Department, and Dr. Ihsan Al-Rumman from the Minister’s office. The meeting was attended from the Organization’s side by Mike Robson, the organization’s representative in Damascus, and Patricia Evania, the program officer in the organization’s office in Cairo.
