20 European companies open accounts with Gazprom Bank to pay for Russian gas

Ten European gas buyers have opened accounts with Gazprom Bank, doubling the total number of customers preparing to pay in rubles for Russian gas, Bloomberg reported today.

The agency said: Twenty European companies have opened accounts and 14 other clients have requested the papers necessary for such accounts, quoting a source who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss confidential matters and refused to identify the companies.

Bloomberg had announced on the 27th of last April that at least ten European companies which buy Russian natural gas have already opened accounts to pay for it in rubles.

On the 31st of last March, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree setting out a new procedure for paying for gas supplies by buyers from unfriendly countries.
