ACSAD discusses with FAO the development of cooperation between the two sides

The Director-General of the Arab Center for Studies of Arid Zones and Dry Lands (ACSAD) Dr. Nasr El-Din Al-Obeid discussed with the Regional Representative for the Near East and North Africa, the Assistant Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Dr. Abdel Hakim Al-Waer, the development of cooperation relations between the two sides and ways to enhance them in various fields.

During his meeting with Dr. Al-Waer at ACSAD headquarters today, Dr. Al-Obaid gave a presentation on ACSAD’s work in Syria and the Arab countries, joint cooperation with regional and international organizations and institutions, and the most important activities in the field of plant production, development of livestock, combating desertification, rehabilitating degraded lands, developing new varieties of wheat and barley strains, and managing water resources in a way that achieves sustainable development goals, stressing that this meeting will contribute to advancing cooperation relations between FAO and ACSAD to the best levels.

Dr. Al-Obaid explained that the cooperation relations between ACSAD and FAO were embodied through joint projects, workshops, successful training courses and field programs, whose economic effects are still witness to their importance and usefulness, noting that this cooperation will increase in the next stage to meet the aspirations of the two organizations.

For his part, Dr. Al-Waer stressed that the activities carried out by ACSAD in Syria and the Arab countries, especially in the recent period, have proven their economic feasibility in various fields as a pioneering organization that contributes effectively to achieving sustainable agricultural development in the Arab region.

Dr. Al-Waer pointed to ACSAD’s important role in achieving food and water security through its scientific and practical performance, the high confidence it has gained and the position it has reached in all fields of work, especially in light of severe climatic changes and water scarcity.
