Further support from Russian political and academic dignitaries

MOSCOW, (ST)- “I do express my solidarity with Syria(people and state)in their  efforts to confront the war which has been waged against the country, “underscored  chairman of the Russian Committee for Solidarity with Syria, Sergei Baborin.

Baborin’s remark came during a meeting with Assistant Secretary General of al-Baath Arab Socialist Party (BASP) Abdullah al-Ahmar.

 Baborin added that the reforms in Syria are taking place under the supervision of the Syrian leadership based on the Syrian people’s interests.

Baborin, who is the Leader of the Russian Popular Union Party, highly appreciated the cooperation agreement binding his committee  with the BASP as regards consolidating official Russian support for Syria.

“the committee  is working along  with the Russian-based  political and parliamentary bodies to boost  Russian support for Syria and to distance away  the U.S. lobby that is trying to play with  the official Russian stance, “affirmed Baborin.

In this regard, he  voiced his support for the Russian President Vladimir Putin’s policy  towards Syria as well as the Russian Foreign Ministry’s efforts .

Al-Ahmar, for his part, reaffirmed the deep relationship binding Syria and Russia, noting that Syria’s steadfastness in the face of the global aggression is not only self-defense but rather a defense of all free people in the world.

“the solution to the crisis in Syria should be through dialogue among the Syrians themselves, but some  Arab and Western countries, which arming and bankrolling the armed terrorist groups ,blocked such a solution,” asserted al-Ahmar.

“the US is definitely orchestrating the armed aggression inside and outside Syria, while the European Union, Turkey and Gulf states are nothing but  tools ,”underlined al-Ahmar.

Al-Ahmar  made it clear that Syria will  take part in the forthcoming  Geneva 2  conference due to discuss finding a political solution to the crisis, adding that the Syrians are determined to achieve victory .

Earlier,al-Ahmar  also met Director of the Orient-Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Vitaly Naumkin, who stressed real friendship with Syria, hailing the Syrian leadership’s stance on participating in the international conference.

“the number of terrorists who have arrived in Syria to fight along the armed groups exceeds 6000 based on Western estimates. However, the real number is as much as bigger,”said  Naumkin .
