Volodin: It is right to confiscate the commercial activities of citizens from unfriendly countries in response to similar measures
On May 1st, the Speaker of the Russian State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin said that it is right to confiscate the business activities of citizens of unfriendly countries located in Russia as a reaction to similar actions of foreign countries in relation to Russian business on their territory.
Commenting on the law adopted by the US House of Representatives that allows the freezing of assets of Russian companies and citizens and their transfer to Ukraine, Volodin wrote on his Telegram, “It is right with regard to businesses located on the territory of the Russian Federation and whose owners belong to unfriendly countries, to take against them such as these decisions should be responded to with similar measures.”
Volodin pointed out that Russian businessmen buy foreign companies operating in Russia and the shares of partners who want to leave the Russian market, considering that they behave in a civilized manner and in accordance with the rules of international law.
Volodin said that a number of unfriendly countries such as Lithuania, Latvia, Poland and the United States were involved in stealing Russian money.
Volodin stressed the need to return Russia’s frozen gold and foreign exchange reserves abroad, amounting to about $300 billion.
He added that the Russian Central Bank banned foreign investors from withdrawing funds from the financial system of the Russian Federation.
