On their Day, Syrian workers: the public sector is an opportunity to gain experience and skill

Old age does not stand as an obstacle to achieving goals. Retirement, which some consider the end of the path, is found by others as the beginning of a new stage in which the retiree is preparing to hand over the torch to his successor, offering him the experiences and professional skills he acquired during his years of work.

After a long journey of work, engineer Wael Abdo, who works at the Deir Ali power station in rural Damascus, is preparing to retire after about two months

Abdo said: “I have been working in the field of constructing stations for more than 32 years between the Tishreen stations and Deir Ali station. I obtained  a lot of experience and skills through my work in the public sector.”

He added that the engineer, who works in the field of electricity in the public sector, acquires many experiences and skills.

Abdo concluded by emphasizing his complete readiness to transfer his experiences even after retirement to all those who wish to work in the stations, directing a message to the workers on their holiday, saying, “We will remain in Syria, defending it with our knowledge and work.”

From Masyaf in Hama, Ghanem Hamdan Ibrahim works in the Tal Salhab Sugar Factory, where he spent 38 years and retired about 4 years ago and has now returned to work at the request of the administration in order to benefit from his expertise in the field of electrical maintenance.

Ibrahim pointed out that he studied at the Engineering Institute in Damascus, specializing in industrial electricity, electron, and control

“Returning to work in April 2022 was one of the most beautiful things that happened to me and made me feel the value of the experiences I got from my work in the public sector,” Ibrahim said.

He said that he was asked to return to the Factory due to the lack of technical staff and the need for his experience.

“I call upon all retirees who have experience, skills and knowledge in their professions, not to consider retirement the end of the journey, but rather a starting point for a new beginning.” Ibrahim concluded
