After an 11-year pause, water was released into the Houla irrigation network in Homs

Homs (ST): The Ministry of Water Resources and the Governorate of Homs released water in the Houla irrigation network, northwest of Homs, after its rehabilitation, in cooperation with the United Nations World Food Program and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

 

The Director of Water Resources in Homs, Engineer Ismail Ismail, indicated that the project is located about 25 km northwest of the city of Homs, and the Taldo Dam is the main source feeding the irrigation network, pointing out that the release of water from the Taldo Dam towards the irrigation network in Houla came after the project was completely rehabilitated within a period of three months.The water network had been destroyed due to terrorist action.

The Minister of Water Resources, Dr. Eng. Tammam Raad, explained in a press statement that the network area is more than 1,200 hectares irrigated from the Taldo Dam, whose storage volume is approximately 15 million cubic meters. 

Raad indicated that the project contributes to stabilizing and supporting the livelihoods of the people of the region and supporting national production, especially with regard to strategic agriculture.
