Foreign Ministry: United Nations and the Security Council should condemn Israeli crimes

Damascus, (ST) –  Syria condemned the blatant Israeli aggression on the vicinity of Damascus at dawn today. It called on the General Secretariat of the United Nations and the Security Council to condemn Israeli crimes and demand their cessation and respect for the relevant Security Council resolutions.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said in a letter to both the Secretary-General of the United Nations and the President of the Security Council today that, the Israeli occupation army committed an air-missile aggression on some points surrounding the capital, Damascus, at 12:41 am today, Wednesday, April 27, 2022, using bursts. Rockets were fired from the direction of occupied Tiberias, which led to the death of four soldiers, the wounding of three others, and the infliction of some material losses.

The ministry added that this new cowardly aggression coincided with the continuous attacks perpetrated by the US and Turkish occupation forces on Syrian citizens and Syrian territories in order to prolong the war in Syria.

The ministry said that the Syrian Arab Republic condemns this blatant aggression and other Turkish and American aggressions, and reserves the right to respond by appropriate means sanctioned by international law and the Charter of the United Nations.

The ministry added that Syria draws the attention of the Secretary-General of the United Nations and the President of the Security Council to the serious consequences of Israel’s continued Violation of the “Separation of Forces and Disengagement of Forces Agreement” signed in Geneva on May 31, 1974 under the auspices of the United Nations. This agreement provides in its first paragraph for a cease-fire on land, sea and air.

The ministry said that the Syrian Arab Republic affirms that the time has become sensitive and urgent for the General Secretariat and the Security Council to exercise their right  to condemn these serious dangerous crimes of occupation.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates added that it is the time to demand a stop to these crimes of occupation and demand from the aggressive parties to respect  the relevant Security Council resolutions and obligate Israel to implement the terms of the agreement of “Separation of Forces and Disengagement of Forces Agreement”, and to cease immediately and unconditionally from threatening regional and international peace and security.
