The late Syrian woman Nihad Shabu’ was keen on attracting Syrian expatriates from all over the world to come home and learn about the deep-rooted history of their country and its archaeological sites through founding “ Friends of Expatriates” Association .
Maya Shabu‘, the niece of the late told the e-Syria reporter “The late Nihad was born in Homs, and studied in its “Orthodox” schools until high school to graduate later from Damascus university the faculty of Arabic language and literature and took over the management of a number of Homs secondary schools.
The late “Nihad“, with her activity, sacrifices and dedication to serving the idea of the association, was able to build a home for the expatriate in the city of “Homs”, in which she receives every expatriate who visits the homeland as a symbol of the first civil home.
Her niece pointed out that the late Nihad had literary articles that were published in a large number of Syrian, Arab and foreign newspapers and magazines.
She devoted herself to serving the Arab expatriates for several years, for which she established the Friends of Expatriates Association in the city of Homs, which included more than 125 volunteers, including an elite of the city’s intellectuals, who are dedicated to serving the association’s goals in attracting expatriates generations of Arab origin.
Maya highlighted her aunt Nihad received many certificates of appreciation and thanks from the Arab communities abroad and their representatives, and from the governments of expatriate countries, the most important of which are: the Republican Decree issued by the President of the “Brazilian” Republic granting her the “Rio BrancoMedal” in the rank of Knight on “31 May 2002.
on October the 1st 2006, she was honored by the Chamber of Commerce among the distinguished women on International Women’s Day.
Then the late woman established the “Al-Sonono” (Swallow) magazine, which is a monthly periodical one , in which she wrote in Arabic, English and (Chilean). The magazine reached Australia, and to many parts of the world.
In turn, “Bashar Khuzam“, head of the Association of “Friends of Expatriates”, and a friend of the late woman, referred to her distinguished character , by attracting many important personalities.
He added: “Nuhad” had an active role in attracting large numbers of expatriates as she was the source of love, tenderness and warmth for the expatriates, so she established officially the association in 1975.
